TOKYO Olympics 2021: Will they happen or not

TOKYO Olympics 2021

The coronavirus crisis has completely turned everyone’s plans upside down, not only for individuals but also for countries. One of them is the 2020 Olympics. Because of the COVID crisis, the International Olympic Committee postponed the 2020 Olympics to 2021. Initially, everyone was clear that the 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo. But with the coronavirus, and the second wave, everything became questionable again.

Here we will address some of the most burning questions among citizens about Tokyo Olympics 2021. As of now, these are some of the current plans, but they may change if situations become critical.

If you’re still wondering when they will be held, then allow us to clarify for you. The Tokyo Olympics 2021 will begin on 23 July 2021 and end on 8 August 2021. Along with this, the Paralympic games will start on 24 August 2021 and end on 5 September 2021.

The officials decided to conduct most of the events in the Greater Tokyo area. However, some of them like football games and marathon games will be in the northern city of Sapporo.

Along with this, we can witness road cycling races at the Fuji International speedway. Mountain bike courses will take place at the Izu MTB course and the Surfing contest will be held at Tsurigasaki Surfing Beach.

Keeping COVID in mind and taking both athletes’ and citizens’ health into considering the committee has taken these steps. Moreover, there are very strict rules that athletes need to follow before and after arriving in Tokyo for the competition.

Initially, before flying to Japan every athlete needs to go through COOVID testing. Once they land in japan they need to go for a second for the COVID testing. On top of that Athletes have to cooperate to be tested for three days continuously once they arrive. They need to get regular tests to ensure their health is good.

Moreover, they should not get close to any athletes, they have to maintain six feet distance from other athletes along with citizens. The Official will arrange a separate transit for the athlete accommodation. So the IOC and officials are putting full efforts to keep both citizens and athletes safe. Also, athletes need to be patient and should cooperate with the japan officials for carrying out everything as planned.

Unfortunately, this time there won’t be any spectators sitting in the stadium and cheering for the athletes. Because Japan is at a high level of COVID-19 exposure. So it is very crucial for its governments to take such decisions. Back in March only, The IOC has announced that there won’t be any spectators allowed for games. Whereas there is a chance that local spectators can be allowed but at a limited capacity.

But going forward if the situation demands or significant change in the infection rate will change the plans totally.

Apart from this, the citizens of Tokyo seem to be unhappy about conducting the Olympics in their home land-based on surveys. A recent survey conducted in June from Japan’s largest newspaper revealed that nearly 64% of Tokyo’s population was against the Olympics. They want officials to suspend or postpone the Olympics games.

But we are just a few days away from the games, so it may not be possible. At the same time, anything can happen if the situation demands it. Let’s see what will happen.
