That name is Neeraj Chopra, who came from a small village called Khandra and made history today.

He is the latest sensation who won gold for India in the men’s javelin thrower. India has been waiting for gold in athletics for ages and Neeraj has broken the record, ending a devastating wait for India. Neeraj Chopra becomes the first javelin thrower to win a gold medal at the Olympics from India.

Neeraj Chopra has mesmerized everyone with his performance. He truly lived up to everyone’s expectations and won millions of hearts. He started the competition with a fantastic throw that surprised everyone. In the first throw itself, he threw 87.03 best in the competition. From the beginning of the competition, he dominated the field.

Better than that, he gave his best in the second throw that helped him make history. He threw nearly 87.58m better than ever. Everyone was confirmed that India will make history today. With the same enthusiasm, he made his last attempt. In the last attempt, he threw 76.79m. Though he was a bit disappointed with his last throw, He made it to the gold medal.

India has been eagerly waiting for the gold medal since the first day. However, India has won nearly 7 medals till now, with two silver medals and 4 bronze medals. This is the second gold medal ever for India after a long time. The first gold medal was won by Abhinav Bindra in Shooting.

Neeraj Chopra came from a small village, Khandra, near Panipat in Haryana. Haryana has provided many great athletes for the country. Recently we have seen that the wrestling champ who won a silver medal at Tokyo Olympics, also came from Haryana. In fact, from the 17 medals that India won, four are from Haryana athletes only.

Coming back to Neeraj Chopra, a farmer’s son completed his education in Chandigarh. Later in 2016, he was appointed as junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army. He is still serving in the Indian army and received very prestigious awards like the subedar and vishisht Seva medals.

Neeraj Chopra has a passion for track and field and developed his skill in that rigorously. He has a great track record till now has won south Asian games and Asian athletic championships. For all these years, he has been preparing for this special moment. All the hard work and preparation have paid off today on the field.
