Are Electronic cigarettes good or bad for your health?

Electronic cigarettes

Smoking is one of the biggest problems that every country is trying to solve. If we look at the WHO stats, every year tobacco kills more than 1 million people in India alone. For many, smoking has become one of their daily routines. Some people can’t even go through a single day without smoking. They’re heavily addicted to nicotine, and it has become a problem for their family members too.

In addition, youngsters are the ones most addicted to these types of activities. Nicotine addiction is one of the main reasons for youngsters’ premature deaths and other health issues. Smoking shows it impacts every part of internal body organs. It causes cancer, heart disease, lung disease, etc.

Though government and family members are taking action against smoking, there is still plenty of work to do. Many researchers are still finding the best solution for this dangerous habit. Some solutions came into the picture. One of them is Electronic cigarettes.

Electronic cigarettes look similar to traditional cigarettes, but their functionality is different. E-cigarettes work by heating a liquid that generally contains nicotine and flavorings. E-cigarettes let users inhale nicotine in vapor form rather than smoke form. So it doesn’t expose the users to the same level of toxins as traditional smoking.

Smoking these e-cigarettes is called vaping. These devices are developed to help smokers quit their habit of smoking.

These e-cigarettes are not yet becoming mainstream because people are still skeptical about these devices. Most of the population is still not aware of these concepts. To widen the awareness about e-cigarettes, many studies have been conducted in the past.

The research finds were both positive and negative. Let’s understand it better.

E-cigarettes are much more effective than nicotine replacement therapies such as patches and gums. Research shows that most people probably stop smoking after the use of e-cigarettes for six months. Also, it shows that e-cigarettes worked better than support groups and smoking habit-breaking therapies.

Along with this, Dr. Mairtin McDermott, one of the lead authors of the study and researchers at King’s college London’s National addiction center, also confirmed the same thing. He said E-cigarettes, when used daily, can help people to quit smoking compared to no help at all. These results are in line with the previous research results. So we can say E-cigarettes are much more effective than nicotine replacements and support groups.

At the same time, you have to be careful about these e-cigarettes because they are not 100% risk-free. They carry a small fraction of the risk of cigarettes as it uses nicotine. Nicotine can be very addictive for most of us.

Youngsters who don’t have any knowledge about the side effects and long-term risk factors think these e-cigarettes are cool. Some of them use added flavors to attract youngsters. These added flavors and liquids contain some harmful chemicals but they are at much lower levels. So you have to be careful and use E-cigarettes from trusted brands only if you want to.

Some countries like the UK regulated these E-cigarettes for safety and quality.
