Prior to China’s restrictions on gameplay for kids, an article published by the state-run Economic Information Daily claimed that a large portion of youth has become addicted to online games and it was impacting them in a negative way.
After this news, many major online gaming companies’ stocks have dropped significantly. In fact, concerns about online gaming addiction have been circulating all over the world for the last couple of months. The latest technology in gaming development has enabled players to experience these games on a whole new level.
Improved graphics, virtual reality and argument realities, and many other new technologies have been added online. As a result, gamers become totally immersed in these, not wanting to get out of them. Many parents and health experts have expressed their concerns over this matter.
Day by day, this online gaming addiction is getting worse. To help kids not to get addicted to these games, China has taken a bold decision. Online gamers who are under 18 will not be allowed to play games for more than an hour. They are only allowed to play online games for one hour, that too, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Chinese National press has informed state-run news agency Xinhua that game playing for kids under 18 will be allowed to play games between 8 pm to 9 pm. Not only that, the new law also instructed gaming companies to monitor their user’s playtime, especially for those who are under 18.
So gaming companies also started rolling out an inspection to prevent kids from playing outside these times. Previously, many online gaming companies have introduced ID-based logins. However, kids used their parent’s IDs to get into these online games.
But things have changed now. On one side gaming companies will follow the time limit, on the other side Chinese government will also monitor that the time limits are being followed are not.
China has taken this move to educate kids with the right values. Also, it will enable them to have control over their addiction to online games and other activities. As a result, they can develop better habits and spend their time building better habits.
