Zomato has become one of the regular apps that we use whenever we are hungry or want to taste a delicious meal. Everyone is aware of its brand name. It has completely revolutionized ordering food from restaurants. Before these food delivery apps, eating in restaurants was only for special occasions for many people. But Zomato has changed the dynamics entirely.
Right now, Zomato has become one of the fastest-growing companies in India. Even though the journey was not smooth still it has made significant progress in becoming the best at what it does. The company was founded on July 10, 2008, 13 years ago. Today Zomato is celebrating its 13th birthday.
Everyone knows about this food delivering giant, but how many of us actually know about its journey.
Zomato founders Pankaj chaddah and Deepinder Goyal were employees of Bain. While working there, they experienced something that happens with nearly every employee. Whenever they go to the office canteen,a huge line used to be there every time. Employees would wait hours just to get a glance at the menu card of the canteen. Both canteen staff and employees were wasting a lot of their time standing in the line.
So one day Pankaj and Deepinder decided to solve this issue. Soon an idea struck their mind. That idea was Foodiebay, which was Zomato’s initial name. Foodiebay used to scan the menu of the canteen and posted it on the company’s private network.
Later, this facility was available for every restaurant in the city. Every restaurant in the city started using the service, listing their menus. Foodiebay was getting more and more popular day by day.
The foodiebay team decided to change the name from foodiebay to Zomato. To avoid confusion with the eCommerce store eBay. Soon the team expanded the service to some other popular cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. To develop a more user-friendly experience, developing a mobile application came into the picture. But at that time, there were not enough funds to develop and manage an app.
So the company started looking for funds, that’s when the founder of Naukri.com invested up to US $1 million through Info Edge. And the company grew every year continuously. In addition, its mobile application made everything effortless.
Users can easily place orders from the local restaurants and pay as they want. Soon everyone started using this effortless food delivery app. The app has many features like a live update of the delivery boy and adding additional suggestions for the cooking and more everything is at the fingertips of the user. Users fell in love with the app’s interface ordering food and cashless payments. Everything is so smooth.
Apart from this, Zomato’s intelligent marketing strategies and continuous offers attract users on a daily basis. Recently Zomato announced that its IPO will hit the market on July 19. It has been a hot topic on social media platforms and among investors for a while now. If you are also looking forward to investing in these IPOs, then do your research. Along with this, Zomato has many interesting projects to look forward to, like the Zomato Cloud kitchen, and it has to work as a B2B raw material supply for restaurants.
