Pune Based Startup made “Virucidal masks” that can kill coronavirus

Virucidal masks

Many industries in India are trying to help the country fight against coronavirus. Mainly tech and the health care department are looking for innovative solutions and possibilities to reduce the impact of coronavirus. To cope with this virus, a Pune-based startup came up with a new solution called the “Virucidal” mask.

In India, millions of people have died because of the corona. With the help of vaccination, the day-to-day death count is decreasing slowly. At this time, coming up with a new solution to cope with coronavirus can be helpful for India. Let’s take a better look at these “Virucidal masks”

A Pune-based startup offers Virucidal masks to kill coronavirus

A Pune-based startup Thincr technologies have combined 3D printing and pharmaceuticals for designing a new type of masks. These virucidal face masks can neutralize any viral particles that come in contact with it. This means it can fight the coronavirus as it comes in contact with it. They coated virucidal face masks with antiviral agents known as virucides.

The startup company Thincr collaborated with Merck Life sciences Nerul facility for designing virucidal coating formulations. Then it used 3D printing techniques for coating this evenly on fabric layers. You can use these coated layers with other mask layers. Other mask layers in N-95 masks, 3-ply masks, and other cover masks. Along with this, they also designed the filter layers of the mask with 3D printing.

After designing, Company made several tests to determine its quality and efficiency. Luckily, most of the results came out very positively. Thincr technologies founder-director Dr. Shitalkumar Zambad officially stated that the masks have bacterial filtration efficiency higher than 95 percent.

If things go as planned, then it won’t take much time for common people to get their hands on these virucidal face masks. However, they are setting some high expectations among people.

The startup started the commercialization process for these Virucidal face masks

The Department of Science and Technology informed about these face masks positively after testing them. When tested, the coating of the Virucidal masks has inactivated the SARS-CoV-2. Whenever viruses come in contact with this mask, it disrupts the outer membrane of the virus.

Also, DST confirmed the ingredients used in the mask are stable at room temperature. Which are widely used in cosmetics. The Technology Development Board selected it for commercialization. It is also one of the first projects TDB selected for commercialization.

The startup company has started commercial-scale production of these face masks. And it even applied for a patent for this product. If we look at the facts, till now NGOs distributed nearly 6000 virucidal masks among government hospitals in Nandurbar, Nashik, and Bengaluru. Mainly for healthcare workers and also for some girls’ schools and colleges in Bengaluru.

Company about these virucidal facemasks

The Pune-based startup founder has predicted the need for high-quality more effective masks at the beginning of the pandemic. They started looking for problems and possible solutions back in 2020 itself. The company founder said that we sensed face masks will become nearly universal. They will be a basic requirement for preventing infection.

However, the face masks available at that time were homemade, and most of them were of low quality. There is a high need for high-quality and better efficiency masks. Keeping those things in mind, we developed these virucidal face masks. Which are the most cost-effective and more efficient virucidal coated masks to top the spread of infection.

Final thoughts

Millions of families have lost their family members during this second wave of corona in India. Both the health care and technology department are making their own efforts to help India cope with coronavirus. As a part of these efforts, A Pune-based startup company has come up with a new solution. It designed virucidal face masks that can kill coronavirus. Test results came out positive and the TDB department selected it for commercialization. So India will have one more weapon in its arsenal to cope with the current situation.
