Telegram is also one of the most reliable and secure messaging apps out there.

Recently, the app has achieved an incredible milestone. Telegram has successfully crossed the mark of one billion downloads globally. Based on Sensor Tower reports, the mobile app Telegram has successfully reached 1 billion, with India as its largest market. It informed that India alone holds 22 percent of its lifetime installs.

There are several reasons how Telegram was able to achieve such an incredible milestone. One of such reasons is WhatsApp’s backlash over its privacy policies. Previously when Whatsapp came out with a new privacy policy upgrade. However, it was not received by the audience as expected. As a result, many people criticized Whatsapp and its parent company Facebook for users’ security concerns.

Because of the new upgrade of privacy policies, many people stepped out of the app. Many started looking for alternatives. Whereas Telegram has maintained privacy standards well. It has appeared as a beacon of hope for users who are concerned about their security. As a result, many people boycotted WhatsApp and joined Telegram.

During those times, WhatsApp alternatives like Telegram and Signal apps have witnessed a massive growth in their user base. WhatsApp’s privacy policy has turned out to be a great advantage for Telegram. Telegram even officially stated that it has seen rapid growth in its user base. Also, it has ensured its users about their security concerns. Telegram has successfully won millions of users’ trust that paved its way to this milestone.

In early 2021, Telegram announced that it is witnessing nearly 500 million monthly active users. Along with this, Telegram has raised approximately $1 billion in its most recent investment round earlier this year. Over the world, Telegram has become the fifteenth app to be downloaded more than a billion times.

However, the majority of its user base and active downloads were in India only close to 22 percent. After India, Russia has the majority of its active installs. Russia accounts for 10 percent, followed by Indonesia with 8 percent.

Telegram also made its hardcore efforts in introducing new features for its users. Not only it ensured users’ concerns about security but also offered them many upgrades and smart features. We know that Telegram from time to time introduces new emojis in its keypad. Since 2013, many new and exciting emojis have surfaced on Telegram.

Along with that, Telegram has introduced chat rooms like Clubhouse, group video, and more. Its group video calls come with the ability to have up to 1000 users. Telegram has always been one step closer to new inventions and new features. Its hardcore efforts and adherence to security rules enabled it to surpass the 1 billion mark.
