Hyderabad is home to many beautiful and exotic gardens. There are many gardens filled with many facilities for citizens’ needs. One such garden is Hyderabad’s, Indira Park. Indira Park is at the heart of Hyderabad close to lower Tank Bund Road. If you are a Hyderabadi, then you might have visited this park multiple times.
Indira Park is the most popular garden in that area. Also, it has some fun facilities to take a ride like boating. Apart from this, it is commonplace for youngsters and young couples.
Over the years, the park has seen a decent growth in its popularity. At the same time, it has become commonplace for young couples’ romance. In recent times, park officials have received several complaints about indecent acts of young couples. So to make the premises more family-friendly and comfortable for citizens, Indira park officials came up with an idea. Unfortunately, that idea has caused serious outrage among citizens.
The Park official erected a banner outside the park stating that unmarried couples will not be allowed inside. The main focus of this act was to prevent intimacy between young couples in the park area.
However, when the pictures of the banner that was put up on the park entry surfaced online many people criticized the idea. Both citizens and several activists have reacted against the idea.
Mainly the idea came to the spotlight when the activist Meera Sanghamitra on Thursday, August 26 made a post about this incident tagging GHMC Mayor G Vijayalaxmi. Her post on Twitter got support from citizens too. She said in her post ” new low and new level of moral policing by Indira Park Mgmt in Hyd!” A public place is open for all law-abiding citizens, including consenting couples across genders.
She further questioned the GHMC that how can marriage be criteria for entry. Several citizens agreeing on the matter retweeted the matter. For some time, the matter has become a hot topic on social media. Many people started calling out authorities for their moral policing.
Responding to the outrage, GHMC officially took down the banner. Also, officials informed that the banner was put up without their knowledge. One of the officers from the lower ranks has taken such a decision. GHMS made an official post informing that the banner was taken down and saying we regretted the inconvenience caused.
Not only the GHMC also said that they have informed local police to pay regular visits to the park. To prevent any indecent activities inside the park. By this, we can establish a serene atmosphere in the park.
Nowadays, young couples are picking up parks like this as their main spot for meet-ups. Because not every young couple couldn’t afford to visit clubs, parks like these have become their favorite places. However, the main issue is couples’ indecent acts in the park. As Indira park is in the main location, most families also pay a visit. So it is our responsibility to keep such environments decent and family-friendly.
