Yahoo has been the most widely used platform after Google. It used to provide content related to the latest news, finance, and cricket updates in India. Mainly, it was famous for its news and finance content. Unfortunately, from today onwards you won’t be getting any updates in these categories from yahoo.

It’s hard to believe that a platform like Yahoo shutting down its operations so suddenly. Especially when it had enjoyed so much traffic and engagement from those operations. Many people in India use Yahoo for not only searching, but also for the latest news updates, financial insights, and lifestyle.

There is a valid reason behind this sudden move from Yahoo. Yahoo informed that Verizon Media took the decision to take down Yahoo India’s operations. This decision was taken because of the new foreign direct investment rules that limit foreign ownership of digital content platforms in the country.

You can even check the details of the update on Yahoo’s page. Also, Yahoo informed its users about this latest update on its news portal. Yahoo’s page informs that “As of August 26th, 2021 Yahoo India will no longer be publishing content. Along with this, Yahoo ensured its users that other services from Yahoo will run as usual.

It informed its users that Yahoo Account Mail and Search experiences will not be affected in any way. Yahoo even thanked its users for their support and readership. If you want more information about the latest update, you can check on Yahoo’s page it has linked a FAQ on its new operation portal.

However, Yahoo accounts, e-mail, and search experiences will be available for users as usual. Due to the new changes, Yahoo will not be publishing new content starting today. Whereas the content that will be ceased is Yahoo News, Yahoo cricket, Yahoo Finance, and Entertainment in India.

The new IT rules caused Yahoo India to restructure its entire content. Yahoo has been publishing this type of content for a long time. Now it has to halt the operations because of the changed IT rules. New IT rules limit foreign ownership of media companies that operate and publish digital content in India.

Surprisingly, Yahoo even had to remove the cricket update too as a part of this. Because sports content also has some news components in it. That’s why it has been impacted too.

Yahoo announced that we’ve been publishing content for nearly 20 years for Indian users. We’re really proud of the premium and local content that we’ve published for our users. Ended on a positive note thanking users’ support till now. Also, it added once again that the rest of the services like mail and search operations will be continuing as usual.
