Toofaan Movie Review: Farhan Akhtar impresses with his exceptional physique and acting undoubtedly

Toofaan Movie Review

Farhan Akhtar starred in the movie Toofaan recently released on Amazon Prime. It is the second collaboration between director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar. The first movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which is a sensational hit but the second movie didn’t seem to match those expectations.

But you won’t be disappointed with Farhan Akhtar’s acting or physique. You can witness Farhan Akhtar’s hard-core efforts throughout the movie. Whether it is inside the boxing ring or outside the ring, Farhan Akhtar wins the audience’s hearts without a doubt. But the story seems a bit long, and the director seems to focus on too many situations, quite not hitting the main point.

The movie starts with Farhan Akhtar being a gangster whose work is to collect debuts from locals. He is an orphan who has been brought up by a local gangster. Whereas Farhan Akhtar aka Aziz Ali is the most hardcore person who works under him. At one point, Aziz Ali gets into a fight with another local gang. In the middle of the fight, one of the opposite gang members breaks the glass on his head.

After settling the matter there, he visits a local hospital where he meets the heroine Ananya Prabhu. However, she refuses to treat him because he is a gangster. Later she gets close with him and inspires him to become the best boxer.

A local gym trainer introduces Aziz Ali to boxing, also he hooks him onto Muhammad Ali’s boxing videos. After continuously watching Muhammad Ali, Aziz decides to get into boxing. But he is not yet ready, he has a lot to learn so look after a new coach.

That is where Nana Prabhu (Paresh Rawal) gets into the picture. Initially, he rejects him to be a student because he is a Muslim. He has a rough past with Muslims. He lost his wife in a bomb attack that was initiated by terrorists. So he holds a grudge against Muslims throughout the movie.

Once again Aziz Ali gets into his daily routine of collecting debuts in his style, with violence. That’s when Ananya Prabhu sees him and Farhan Akhtar tries to speak with her. Then she asks him to choose whether he wants to become Aziz Ali the boxer and Aziz Bhai the gangster. Aziz decides to go with the first option and realizes that he needs a coach.

So he goes back to Nana Prabhu and luckily gets under his wings to become the best boxer. Within a short time, Farhan Akhtar excels in boxing with his energy and powerhouse-like strength.

The bond between Aziz and his coach breaks when the coach realizes that he is in love with his daughter. Ananya later gets separated from her father and decides to get married to Aziz. But things get messy there. As a new boxer, he didn’t have much money for leading a successful married life. Because of this, he gets involved in a fixed match which led him to 5 years of a ban from boxing. And things unfold in an unexpected and ugly way.

Overall the story seems to focus on too many points where it misses the same flavor as the director had with the first movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. In addition, the music track also does not impress much. The movie plus points are Farhan’s incredible acting, the chemistry between Ananya and Aziz Ali (Farhan Akhtar). Overall, the movie is good and watchable. If you are expecting the same level of success as the first movie, then you will be disappointed.
