Life-changing lessons from Buddhist monks

Buddhist monks

When you think of monks, you get a picture of a calm and cool person wearing simple clothes. You never imagine them in fashionable clothes and rushing to go somewhere. Because they live in the moment and they understand something that many of us are not paying attention to.

They can enjoy a simple and happy life even with minimal things in their lives. Whereas we are having a hard time just going through our day-to-day life even though we have ample of things around us. To understand and live a happy life like a monk, we need to learn some lessons that they follow every day.

1.One thing at a time

Whenever you see a monk, he will be calm and totally present in the situation. They never rush through things, whether mentally or physically. They pay close attention to everything that deserves attention. If you ask how they appear so calm because they follow the rule One thing at a time. Monks were taught from childhood to focus on the task at hand only. If you eating just eat. If you are breathing, just breathe. Similarly, when you want to do something take steps towards that direction. Don’t multitask.

2.Making learning and listening to your top priority

Monks are well known for their silent nature speaking when only necessary. They don’t waste their energy trying to argue or convince someone. Mindful listening is the most important lesson in a monk’s life. They believe when you are speaking you only speak about something that you know already. But when you listen, you may learn something new. So it’s very important to listen without evaluating. In that way, you can listen to and learn new things at the same time.

3.Being in the present

Monks are great at keeping their minds rooted in the present moment. They don’t dwell on the past or dream about the future. The only thing that is important to pay full attention to is your present. To keep their mind in the present, they perform many vigorous exercises and hours of meditation. Meditation helps you calm your mind and helps to focus on being in the moment. Meditation brings you back into your reality. By focusing on the present, you can create a better future and make peace with the past.

4.Let go of things that you can’t control

Monks are masters at not getting attached to anyone or anything. It doesn’t mean they are emotionless. It means they are masters of their emotions and know what is best for them. Let go of things that you can’t control is very hard for most of us. We attach something much more important to things or people that we have no control over. And worry that we can’t control them. Letting go of the control, let go of the need to control something for you to be happy.

5.Less is more

Monks understand less is more. They love the idea of minimalism. For a happy life, you don’t need many things. All you need is the right things that are only a few and basic.
